Four images from Paolo Simonazzi's new project "Habana, eventual" will be part of the group photography exhibition "Il ritmo della vita. Vecchi e bambini nella fotografia umanista del XX e XXI secolo" (The Rhythm of Life. The Elderly and Children in Humanist Photography of the 20th and 21st Centuries), running from 24 September to 16 October at the CMC – Centro Culturale di Milano in Milan.

The exhibition, curated by Angela Madesani, explores the two extremes of existence – childhood and old age – highlighting their fragility, purity and anthropological changes.

“The exhibition,” reads the press release, “stems from an insight by the curator following research into the works of the Tuscan photographer Max Baccetti, and unfolds by interweaving his work with that of three sensitive practitioners of contemporary photography – Paolo Simonazzi, Enzo Obiso and Paola Mongelli – in dialogue with a carefully curated selection of historic vintage masterpieces, from the 1940s to the early 2000s, drawn from the prestigious collection of Rita and Riccardo Marone”.

“The doctor and photographer Paolo Simonazzi,” the press release continues, “is exhibiting four works created in Cuba. Drawing inspiration from Terence’s maxim ‘Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto’, Simonazzi explores the realm of the contingent, the improbable and the provisional: the reference is to life and its precarious condition. Six elderly men are the subjects of his photographs on display; they are older people enduring hardship, surrounded by ironic and powerful symbols.”

The opening of “Il ritmo della vita” is on Thursday 24 September at 6 pm.
